Michael Brennan is a cop in pursuit of a serial rapist—and the rapist has targeted Natasha Panova, the love of Michael's life.
Ocean City, Maryland is a gemstone among the east coast resorts, a city of old values and older sins. In 1994 a predator moves at will through a town overflowing with tourists, and it appears that he's a cop. Or is he?
Michael is a compassionate ladies man. He takes a personal interest in the vicious but seemingly unrelated attacks because he is a pro, and because he's known abuse. Two others are drawn into the hunt: Michael's courageous friend Officer Levi Hart, and Natasha”a brilliant waitress who dances to a logical beat. Levi knows one of the victims”but he's reluctant to say why”and Natasha knows that she is next on the rapist's list. Together, they trace the clues.
As Michael closes in he discovers that he's become a suspect, and when a jealous coworker threatens to derail the investigation, he realizes that his crusade for justice may cost him his soul, Levi his honor, and Natasha her life. When Michael finally confronts the rapist, he turns out to be someone who was there all along but nobody noticed.

Reviews
Richard Craig Anderson, a former trooper, knows police work close up and personal. Rivers of Belief is a fast-moving action, love story, and ethics problem, all wound around hunting down a vicious serial rapist in a small east coast tourist town. Once started, Rivers of Belief won't be put down until dawn's early light.

"Rick Anderson's Rivers of Belief puts you up close and personal in a nitty-gritty cop's point of view, in a way that only someone who has been there can. Fasten your seat belt and get ready to roll!"ť

"The bay meets the land head-on here...the whole separates into the parts...it was a place to go , a place to cope with all the stuff that goes on when your world turns crazy." p.6-7 Rivers of Belief.
For me, the central metaphor in Rivers is the fertile Maryland tidelands near Ocean City, where horseshoe crabs lurk and, most importantly, where protagonist-cop Michael Brennan retreats to sort out his life, his loves and his case-- the rampage of a serial rapist.
Rivers of Belief is precisely literary crime fiction to match anything from the across the Atlantic. Mr. Anderson's grasp of character is stunning. As I followed Officer Brennan through the myriad tangle of his own relationships and his search for the rapist, I was constantly aware that I was in the capable hands of a writer who was delivering character not caricature. I was grabbed on p.6 and not let go of until the surprise ending. Somehow, someday, I will visit Ocean City and look for Officer Brennan in the crowd.
FIRST CLASS ALL THE WAY.

Richard Anderson's book truly shows his experience and knowledge of law enforcement and investigation. Rivers of Belief is a real page turner. What I enjoyed most about the book was the fact that I had to know what was going to happen next and the ending was a total shock. There is always some twist and turn and a real life aspect to the book that it seems very real. I have read his previous books, which were real page turners too; Rivers of Belief is perhaps his best work yet. I highly recommend anyone interested in a real page turner, to read this one. Great job to the author! I look forward to your next one - so hurry up!

Anderson does a great job developing his characters and helping the reader share in their joy of life and their pain and difficulty. Anyone who knows the Ocean City, MD area will enjoy the detailed descriptions of the area. At several points in the story I thought I knew who was committing the crimes only to be proven wrong. I was unable to put the book down until I reached the surprising ending. This book is an enjoyable read and I highly recommend it!

The brotherly love of two men, a woman, twists and turns. This is a read that one can not put down until finished. The author leads you winding through the characters and twists of the story until just when you think you know where the story is going, the path takes a sudden jerk and you are facing something you never expected. The paths join to come to an end that leaves you with a comfort knowing that all is right in the world and you wanting more of these three very strong yet vague, interesting but coy, loving but independent characters. I hope the author takes these characters on more journeys and look forward to reading more of them soon.
