“Willie’s Reflection” is a unique children’s book that offers children and caregivers alike positive and practical ways to deal with the death of a loved one. The book inspires hope, normalizes grief feelings and demonstrates that it is possible to love again. Just as we teach children how to love, we must also find opportunities to teach then how to grieve. The topic of grief is presented in a clear and gentle manner. Brilliant color illustrations reveal the intensity of feelings as experienced by a grieving child. Practical suggestions are offered to those who care for and work with children experiencing a loss. Sam and Willie meet each summer morning at Long River to fish, skip pebbles on the water and sip grape sodas. Without warning, the cherished friendship ends when Willie dies. Readers will follow Sam on his journey through the stages of grief. Discover how Sam finds a way to say goodbye to Willie, and eventually holds his friend’s memory in his heart. It is only then that Sam is able to reinvest in a promising new friendship.

About The Author

Patricia Zielinski is a licensed marriage and family therapist who resides in southern California with her husband and two daughters. Patricia has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings with children and families experiencing various types of loss. Countless hours of reading to her children inspired the author to create stories that tackle difficult issues while offering hope and encouraging healing. Illustrator, Lisa Harp Johnston's artistic style combines detailed watercolor and concentric lines to create movement and elicit emotion. Her love of children's art led her to earn a BFA from Laguna College of Art & Design where she majored in illustration.
