At 27, Orlando loses the desire for life after the death of his wife and unborn child. Five years later, alcoholic and short on job offers, he takes a job at the Lighthouse Inn, a recovery halfway house. He decides to stay sober and work for a year before leaving Tampa in search of a fresh start, but his abstinence plan doesn't work. Having witnessed another way to live at the Lighthouse, he accepts recovery. Working at the inn, he experiences the healing power of helping others and rediscovers himself. Based on the talent of the residents brought to the inn, he organizes a basketball team, the Thunderbolts. Making peace with the past, they embark on the road to redemption-and the realization of forgotten dreams.

Reviews

"One frequently reads of tragedies that occur with people whose lives are ruined by addiction. Although Sticks of Fire depicts this reality, it also portrays a real sense of hope (and triumph). The Thunderbolts' victory, and vindication, on the basketball court gives the reader hope, regardless of the obstacles that might be encountered in life." William Falcone, Brandon, Florida "A story of hope and inspiration for the recovering individual. This book tackles the struggles and challenges of finding one's way to the "rooms" of recovery. Identification with the characters comes alive, as they step out of the book and into your heart." Deborah Kincaid, M.S., A.T.R. Registered Art Therapist
