"The Orange Mama Laid" is a straightforward guide to the games that have kept generations of kids outdoors until the dinner bell rang and again until bedtime, and to the games that have kept them occupied on long winter days and car rides. With this book as a refresher, you'll be able to lure the kids away from their TV's and computers, break the ice with the newest ones and/or keep the kids active and entertained in any situation that allows for a little fun.
Some of the games and activities included are the motions to Itsy Bitsy Spider and I'm a Little Teapot; the rules to Capture the Flag, SPUD, Sardines, Spotlight Tag, Ghost in the Graveyard and Kick the Can; the rules for Old Maid, Hearts, Spit, Spoons, and I Doubt It; how to fold a paper football and a cootie-catchie; riddles, knock-knock jokes and even a whole list of your favorite farewell rhynes ("Let's scat, alley cat!").
About The Author
Kirsten Denney grew up spending her summers on an island in Maine with no electricity so spent whole days playing the games in "The Orange Mama Laid". She was inspired to write this book by her neices and nephew, with whom she now shares these games on that same island.

 | Susan from Sterling , VA | | | This book has provided more fun for our family than any other I remember. The instructions are easy to follow, and the games are a blast. This book is a must-have for every family and anyone who cares for kids. |
 | Barbara B from Chicago , IL | | | If you work with young children as I do, you NEED this book! In one remarkable collection, Kristen Denney has brought together all the sound and word games so necessary for growing readers. Games that build vocabulary in many different ways, story telling games, poems that teach kids to speak and listen, singing rhymes, songs, singing games - everything that encourages kids to play with language and learn at the same time! Free of the technical jargon of most education books, The Orange Mama Laid, is in fact a book for children of all ages. "The key to enjoying children is knowing what to do with them", Ms Denney writes in the introduction to her book. And than she proceeds to show us - novice and veteran alike - the endless possibilities! |
 | Vicki Oatis from Norwalk , CT | | | As a Children's Librarian, I highly recommend this book. I've gotten some excellent ideas for after school library programs to do with kids of a variety of ages. Do you remember all those classic childhood games you used to play? Does Kick the Can come to mind? How about the card game Spoons? Maybe you can’t remember the lyrics to “Pat-a-Cake” or the rules to Capture the Flag. Author, Kirsten Denney, has published a book, The Orange Mama Laid, that is exactly what all parents and caregivers need to keep children entertained. This book will help you out on car rides, camping trips, or just lazy summer afternoons. Lyrics to many songs and rhymes, as well as all the motions, are included; campfire games, card games, tag games, car games, races and many other activities are explained in a clear-cut, easy-to-understand manner. It is a very well-organized book that is meant for children of all ages and those adults wanting to relive the best times of childhood. |
