168 Pages, Paperback, 6 x 9

"The Orange Mama Laid" is a straightforward guide to the games that have kept generations of kids outdoors until the dinner bell rang and again until bedtime, and to the games that have kept them occupied on long winter days and car rides. With this book as a refresher, you'll be able to lure the kids away from their TV's and computers, break the ice with the newest ones and/or keep the kids active and entertained in any situation that allows for a little fun. Some of the games and activities included are the motions to Itsy Bitsy Spider and I'm a Little Teapot; the rules to Capture the Flag, SPUD, Sardines, Spotlight Tag, Ghost in the Graveyard and Kick the Can; the rules for Old Maid, Hearts, Spit, Spoons, and I Doubt It; how to fold a paper football and a cootie-catchie; riddles, knock-knock jokes and even a whole list of your favorite farewell rhynes ("Let's scat, alley cat!").

About The Author

Kirsten Denney grew up spending her summers on an island in Maine with no electricity so spent whole days playing the games in "The Orange Mama Laid". She was inspired to write this book by her neices and nephew, with whom she now shares these games on that same island.

Kirsten Denney's book has preserved classic kids games. It is as fun to be reminded of games from my childhood as it is to pass them along to my grandchildren! There are also new games that will become classics. A wonderful change from virtual play. Kids really enjoy the interaction with other kids and even adults who still love to play. The rules are explained and variations are suggested. There is laughter and high energy fun for all. Kirsten obviously loves kids and games and her enjoyment is contagious. I love this book!

As a Children's Librarian, I highly recommend this book. I've gotten some excellent ideas for after school library programs to do with kids of a variety of ages. Do you remember all those classic childhood games you used to play? Does Kick the Can come to mind? How about the card game Spoons? Maybe you can’t remember the lyrics to “Pat-a-Cake” or the rules to Capture the Flag. Author, Kirsten Denney, has published a book, The Orange Mama Laid, that is exactly what all parents and caregivers need to keep children entertained. This book will help you out on car rides, camping trips, or just lazy summer afternoons. Lyrics to many songs and rhymes, as well as all the motions, are included; campfire games, card games, tag games, car games, races and many other activities are explained in a clear-cut, easy-to-understand manner. It is a very well-organized book that is meant for children of all ages and those adults wanting to relive the best times of childhood.

What a great book! I'd forgotten how much fun we had as children playing these games. They are a great alternative to TV and Video games, etc. I look forward to my grandchildren enjoying these games.
