Trying to raise his three girls is a challenge for Eddie and his wife, Lula. Steering them away from the drugs, alcohol, gangs, and teen pregnancies is something they have to do, though. When Ramona, the oldest daughter succumbs to peer pressure, all of their lives become raked with turmoil. Nikki used to look up to her big sister, now she is ashamed of Ramona. When tragedy strikes, the family's strength is tested. Eddie sends Nikki to North Carolina to spend the summer with his mother until he finds a way to save his remaining family. At her grandmother's house Nikki learns the true meaning of family and what it takes to make it work - God. From a beautiful butterfly she learns about patience and how to wait. The thing that was missing all along was God and patience.

Reviews

Miss Darby read to us some pages from her book and I was blown away. I could see Nikki trying to plead with her sister to stop using drugs. I could feel her pain when her world starting falling apart because I had been there too. I loved this book! It encouraged me to try harder to do something with my life. Jabari, 15 I had read the manuscript before it got publihsed. Yet hearing it read was awesome. I cried right along with Nikki. This book was different from all of the other teen books I had read because it wasn't about dating, and about dating, and sex and all of that. It was about family. - Shakira, 16
