Critiqued by teens before publication, the true stories inspire life-affirming messages:
*You can contribute, and you should
*Rise above the past, embrace the present, and focus on the future
*To stand out, stand up for yourself *Repair and remodel; don't rebuild
*Conquer whatever could tear you down
Author Matthew M. House, J.D. has based the title on the alternative means of arriving at the Inca city of Machu Picchu. Most teens walk a twisting trail because they cannot take or choose not to take an express train. The meandering route changes the traveler by a meaningful, challenging journey, which the train could never provide. In life, even those on the express train in some areas cannot ride the railcar all the time. The winding path makes all the difference.
Most teenagers would acknowledge that they want to change their lives without changing themselves. Two Ways to Machu Picchu shares compelling stories and step-by-step solutions to empower teenagers to take control of their lives.
About The Author
Direct and decisive, Matthew House, J.D. hones his optimism by defying seemingly insurmountable challenges with bold determination. Born eleven weeks premature, doctors were convinced that House would not speak, if he even survived. However, his courageous mother made no room other than that her son would thrive.
However, House’s medical crises only began the challenges. With a single mother and a largely absent father, the predictions for House’s future pointed to becoming a dropout, a criminal, or worse. House defied substantial odds and graduated from high school with honors. He continued to the University of Oregon, where he graduated with a Spanish degree, magna cum laude.
House proceeded to the University of Idaho for his law degree, with a full scholarship, and was selected to the Dean’s List. Now in a private mediation practice, House lives for his highest and best purpose, responding to his late grandfather’s challenge, “Much is expected of those to whom much has been given.”
