After twenty-five years of married life, Kate Forest's husband dies suddenty of a heart attack. Kate is left with little sense of purpose or direction because she relied on her husband Dave completely. Her children and close friend Linda are a great support to her during this difficult time and help Kate begin to take charge of her life. But not until Kate finds her old friend Hattie murdered, and she is thrust into the murder investigation by Inspector Ian McCord, does she slowly gain self-confidence. She organizes a garden club and the members help Kate search for clues in their own unique ways. Kate is confronted with the possibility that Dave was having an affair, and is determined to find out if this is true. Suspicion falls on Kate when the townspeople learn she inherited the large stone house where Hattie lived. Kate must work her way through these obstacles, as well as face her and Ian's growing attraction for each other.

Reviews

Secret Sins is an engrossing murder mystery that combines a simple plot, a refreshing middle-aged heroine, an absorbing cast of secondary characters along with a dash of romance and a gentle sense of humor. Rhoda Maxwell writes in an engaging style and keeps readers guessing the murderer's identity right to the very end. She paints a vivid picture of life in a mid-size town, bringing alive the insatiable curiosity of the townspeople, their idle gossip, as well as their helping nature. Her characters are so real and typical, we can readily identify with them. Written in unpretenious prose, her debut novel should delight fans looking for new talent.
