Ordinary Me: From Survival to Success sheds light on one person's determination to not be a victim of circumstance. The author takes the reader on a journey through the life of a physically and emotionally abused adolescent as she transitions into a life as a ward of Wayne County's Social Services. With this new life as a ward of the county, the main character transitioned between shelters, group homes and foster homes where she was subjected to both sexual and emotional abuse. These experiences resulted low self-esteem and a very negative outlook on the world. With added pressures of fitting in with her peers, conforming to new foster families and attempting to be like a regular kid, the main character’s reality was too intense to handle at times which led to frequent thoughts of suicide. As the main character reaches adulthood, she realizes the need to strive for a more positive and productive life. She is able to obtain this lifestyle by not only setting and achieving various goals but also by changing her thought process.

About The Author

Taneshia Marshall known to many in the public speaking community as Tmarshal, encountered challenges very early in adolescence. Taneshia Marshall was born in Detroit, MI to unmarried teenaged parents. Taneshia’s father never played a true role in her life and would later lose his life to drug and alcohol abuse. By the age of ten, it was discovered by some family members that Taneshia’s mother had been physically abusing her. One time the abuse was so severe she had to be hospitalized. Later, Taneshia’s mother lost custody of her and she became a ward of Wayne County Social Services until her eighteenth birthday. As a ward of Wayne County Social Services, Taneshia transitioned between shelters, group homes and foster homes where she was subjected to both sexual and emotional abuse. These experiences left Taneshia with low self-esteem and a very negative outlook on the world. With added pressures of fitting in with her peers, conforming to new foster families and attempting to be like a regular kid, Taneshia’s reality was too intense to handle at times which led to frequent thoughts of suicide. At the age of 19, Taneshia Marshall was able to turn her life around unleashing the power to achieve dreams of a more enriched existence. Eliminating internal and external limitations due to racial, gender and financial strains, she received her college degree from a Michigan university. After working for several top companies of the automotive industry as an engineer and in marketing and sales, Taneshia Marshall transitioned to break boundaries in the public speaking industry.
