While battling with a life threatening illness, a terrifying thought occurred to Sylvi. Should she die, how would her grand-children deal with her passing? Surely there must be a children's book that would help her to prepare them. In her search she found many books that addressed the death of a loved one, but none concerning an impending death. Thus was born Nanny and I. The story begins with a little girl's bus trip to her beloved grandmother. Each day is filled with singing, painting together, and shopping trips. The book captures the adventures and tender moments that bond this little girl to her wise wheelchair-bound grandmother, and the dilemma that the child faces when she has to say good-bye. As the story ends, Nanny cleverly surprises her grand-daughter with a simple and unique gift that gives her the strength to rise above her grief and to realize that because love is forever, goodbye can never really be a final ending. Nanny and I is a starting point for parents to communicate with their children. It presents a difficult topic in a matter of fact and subtle manner so that the story can be read at whatever level the child is ready to accept.

About The Author

Sylvi experiences life from a wheelchair. Her disabilities limit her movements and make her dependent on others. From this special vantage point, Sylvi writes about her relationships with her grandchildren and the world around her. Sylvi's unique relationship as a child with her disabled grandmother also allowed Sylvi to stand in the shoes of Nanny's granddaughter. She creates the text and pictures from her heart. Her books are believable because in reality Sylvi is both the Nanny and the granddaughter that appears in the Nanny and I series. Sylvi lives with her husband, grandson, and service dog in the Vermont countryside.
