The central character, Yvette Gibson, is a young black woman with a successful career, though seemingly unlucky in love. Through a series of joys and trials, Yvette juggles the remnants of a relationship with her ex-boyfriend Jamal and her current relationship with Jonathan, who seems to be the perfect man. To add to her woes, Yvette's relationship with her girlfriends appears to be rocky as well. Through a dramatic storyline and rich detail, Yvette's story is told and as her story unfolds to the reader, Yvette discovers who she really is. The story is much too deep to be finite by the last chapter of the novel, thus leaving the reader anticipating the next saga of Yvette's life.
